Clinical Studies on Lower Lung Field Tuberculosis

Abstract
A clinical observation was performed on 125 cases of lower lung field tubeculosis experienced at Kwang-ju Christian Hospital from January, 1969 to March, 1975, and the following results were obtained.
1) One hundred and twenty-five cases of lower lung field tuberculosis were found among a total of 10,084 pulmonary tuberculosis patients, representing 1.24% of all the cases.
2) Age incidence was highest in the third decade, and the sex ratio between male and female was 1:3.3.
3) Malaise and fever were the constitutional symptoms most commonly encountered; and the respipatory symptoms, such as cough(73.6%),sputum(51.2%), and hemoptysis(35.2%) were found.
4) The duration of illness before diagnosis was almost less than 6 months.
5) The right lung was more commonly involved than the left.
6) Thirty-six% of the patients had cavities, which were usually single, and rarely had air-fluid levels.
7) The association of the parenchyial lesions with pleural effusion was rare(6 cases) here was only one case of segmental atelectasis.
8) Associated conditions were diabetes mellitus (3.2%), pregnancy(3.2%), pleural effusion(4. 3%), and extrapulmonary tuberculosis(3.2%), etc.
